Rafting and canyoning are types of activities for the true adventurer. During rafting you master the wild mountain streams as part of a team in a white-water rafting dinghy. Well-protected in a neoprene wetsuit and armed with an oar you're about to tame the torrent waters. Canyoning is equally action-packed and full of excitement. Here, you'll master the wild-romantic Kitzlochklamm [gorge], but not on secured trails but directly following the course of the gorge! Abseiling narrow gorges while constantly exposed to the water is sure to provide the desired adrenalin rush.
However, the mountains are not just a playground for extreme outdoor pursuits, they are also perfect for visitors who just want to enjoy their spectacular scenery. Simply hop on the Gastein mountain trams and lifts and reach the many magnificent viewpoints with ease.
A proud inhabitant of the National Park Hohe Tauern is the eagle - copy the king of the skies and take to un-scaled heights. The excellent thermal lift in Dorfgastein makes this the place to meet for paragliders and hang-gliders.
