In 1904 scientists detected Radon as the source of the healing properties. The rainwater required over 3,000 years to seep deep into the earth, to a depth of roughly 2,000 m. At this depth the water warms up and resurfaces from the mountain at an altitude of 1,000 m. The natural gas Radon, which is a constant by-product within mineral rock formation, imbues the Gastein Thermal water with its healing powers. Radon has a cell-renewal effect, is anti-inflammatory, influences the immune system, increases the production of free radicals, produces pain-relieving agents in the organism and stimulates the body's self-healing properties.
