Salzburger Land

Holiday Destination Full of Variety - the Salzburger Land

Go and explore the Salzburger Land. An abundance of sight seeing and attractions are at your disposal - you will be spoilt for choice!

One of the highlights of the Salzburger excursions is the Eisriesenwelt [world of ice giants] near Werfen. There you'll find Europe's largest ice cave. Embark on a walk deep into the inside of the mountain, nature's unique wonders are sure to enthral visitors of any age. Near Werfen, too, is the impressive castle Burg Hohenwerfen. Tours explain the rough customs of the middle ages and special shows, such as the bird of prey flying display provide extra excitement. In St. Johann in Pongau another natural spectacle awaits, the Liechtensteinklamm [gorge]. A hike through this gorge provides a hint of adventure and offers a wild-romantic atmosphere.

The Salzburger Land is also renowned for its lakes. Although not a natural lake, the Kapruner Reservoir is, however, regarded as one of the most important industrial monuments of the Austrian Republic.

Hot air balloons take you to the skies. To view the beauty of this region from above is particularly exciting. Austria's hot air balloon Mekka is in Filzmoos, where week-long hot air balloon tournaments attract thousands of visitors.

Whether you hike, drive, or fly through the Salzburger Land or whether you succumb to visiting the countless attractions and sights, these excursions around gastein are enthusing for the young and the young at heart.
